Ketamine Frequently Asked Questions
What is ketamine therapy?
Ketamine therapy is a medical treatment that uses low doses of ketamine, traditionally an anesthetic, to alleviate symptoms of depression, PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain, and other mental health conditions. It is administered under clinical supervision.
Is ketamine therapy safe?
Yes, when administered by trained medical professionals in a controlled setting, ketamine therapy is very safe. We monitor vital signs and patient response throughout each session. Our team consists of a MD, DNP, FNP, and RN with emergency room experience making us one of the safest provider groups to experience ketamine therapy with.
How does ketamine work for mood disorders?
Ketamine rapidly enhances communication between brain cells by increasing glutamate activity and supporting neural regeneration. This can lead to quick and sustained relief of symptoms, even in treatment-resistant cases. Patients report feeling lighter and have improved sleep post the first treatment in their series. How does ketamine therapy help with chronic pain?
Ketamine is especially effective for central sensitization. This is when the nervous system becomes hypersensitive to pain. Its NMDA receptor-blocking properties help “reset” pain pathways and reduce pain perception at a neurological level. Pain levels can improve within the first session in your series. Yes, but you may feel detached, dreamlike, or deeply relaxed. Most patients describe the experience as introspective or calming.
